Hi Shedders.
Most of the effects of the cyclone are over now, and the cleanup is well underway. I hope all our Shedders are safe and that not too much damage has been caused. If you need assistance, check out the government websites:
Service NSW: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/
Services Australia: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/qld-ex-tropical-cyclone-alfred-mar-2025-disaster-recovery-allowance
Due to the cyclone, we have had to cancel the bus trip to Murwillumbah, which will be rescheduled after some planning. Our committee meeting has also been postponed as some members were unable to attend.
In the shed, work is continuing as normal. There are a few projects on the go, with Peter working on a street library and Tony building a bench for the Girl Guides, along with some very nice laser engraving work.
The Sunday markets will be on as usual. If you have time, come down, have a look, buy something, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy the day.
That’s all for this week. Stay safe and reach out if you need a hand.
Cheers,
Robin
A bit of Aussie story telling
Victor Kirwan, our Shed Member and resident author, has completed another short story!
"The Mysterious Case of The Missing Grandma" is a charmingly humorous tale that blends small-town quirks with endearing character dynamics. Set against the backdrop of a laid-back Australian community, the story follows Danny, his elderly friend Grandpa, and the bumbling Sergeant Mick as they leap into a frenzied investigation after misinterpreting a cryptic note from Grandma. What begins as a melodramatic kidnapping plot unravels into a lighthearted farce, revealing the comedic consequences of assumptions and forgetfulness.
The story thrives on its colloquial dialogue and the lovable absurdity of its characters. Danny’s deadpan humor, Grandpa’s frantic panic, and Sergeant Mick’s overzealous police work paint a vivid picture of a close-knit, gossipy town where everyone knows—and ribs—each other. The twist, involving a torn shopping list and a long-overdue chore, delivers a satisfying punchline that pokes fun at the characters’ overblown reactions while underscoring the warmth of their relationships.
Though the narrative leans heavily on exaggerated antics, it balances slapstick with subtle wit, particularly in Grandma’s no-nonsense demeanor and her playful manipulation of the chaos. The Australian vernacular and rural setting add authenticity, immersing readers in a world where even a misplaced note can spark a pseudo-crime saga. A delightful read, this story is a reminder that sometimes the greatest mysteries are born from the simplest misunderstandings—and that Grandma always has the last laugh.
